While we continue to search for cleaner and more efficient ways to produce energy, we also need to address the demand side of the equation. Reducing demand for energy has environmental , economic, and energy security benefits.

Research has shown that as our economy has become more high tech, our electricity demands have increased dramatically (40% of energy use). Transportation accounts for 30% of our daily energy use. Heating of homes and offices require another 30% of our energy.
Consumers, businesses, and public sector workers are being asked to change energy usage habits, become more aware of energy waste, and invest in more energy efficient products.
One U.S. Department of Energy study shows that if every American household replaced just one incandescent bulb with a compact fluorescent bulb, the country would conserve enough energy to light 3 million homes and save more than $600 million annually.
